The Orton Effect

I have tried Michael Orton’s Effect on many photos and found it usually give a nice soothing feel to the photo.  It also works very nicely on Portraits.  You judge and please give me your feedback.

In Elements:  Open your image, Ctrl J, Ctrl J, Change Blend to SCREEN, Ctrl E, Ctrl J, give the top layer a significant Gaussian Blur, Change Blend to MULTIPLY, Ctrl E, CtrlE.  Save with new name

That’s it – you have your Orton Effect

  1. Bill,

I copied out your instructions for the Orton Effect. I’m going to give it a try. I’ll post my results so you can see how I do.

    Thanks for sharing–TMeredithN

    • I can’t wait to see your results!

    • And, I think your fountain shot would look great Ortonized…
